How to use equity at the table
Equity is what your hand is worth if all remaining cards were dealt with no more betting. The number becomes a decision when you compare it to the price a bet offers: calling a pot-sized bet needs 33% equity to break even, half pot needs 25%. If your equity beats the price, the call is profitable; if it does not, the fold is.
You will not have this page open mid-hand, which is why players memorize shortcuts: the Rule of 2 and 4 approximates draw equity from your outs, and preflop range charts settle which hands to play before equity math is ever needed. The calculator is for afterwards: check the spots that confused you, and the shortcuts calibrate themselves over time.
Play four-card poker too? The Pot Limit Omaha odds calculator runs the same analysis under the exactly-two-hole-cards rule. And when the equities were fine but the results still hurt, the variance calculator shows whether a downswing like yours is inside the normal range.
Is this calculator exact or a simulation?
Exact. Every remaining board runout is enumerated and scored — the result cannot vary from run to run. Many odds calculators run Monte Carlo simulations instead, which are close but wobble on the decimals. The runout count shown under every result is the number of boards actually evaluated.
Why do suits change the numbers?
Suits decide who can make a flush and whose flush cards are dead. AA vs KK is 82.6% when both pairs share the same two suits, because every flush the kings can make is dominated by the ace of that suit. With no shared suits it drops to 81.3%: the kings get clean flush runouts of their own. The differences are small, a point or less, but they are real, which is why this page asks for exact cards rather than hand categories.
Positions are shareable: the cards you pick are written into the page URL, so copying the address bar links straight to the matchup. Equity assumes all remaining cards are dealt with no further betting.
